Purchasing the first home is a very exciting point in anyone's life, and many buyers already know the benefit of having a pre-purchase inspection done to look for obvious flaws in the home. However, as someone who has moved into their first home and discovered the drains are continuously blocking, it is time to turn your attention to how this problem can be repaired in the long term. While you can keep paying for the blocked drain to be unclogged, it is more economic to turn your mind to repairs. There are three main options you have to remove your blocked drain issue for good.

Chemicals

If your drains are blocked because tree roots have penetrated the pipe, chemicals are one way to fight back. A type of foaming herbicide can be poured into your drain by a plumber, and this chemical concoction kills off the roots which are there.

While this method does unblock the drain once the tree roots die, it does not remedy the damage the tree roots have already done. Therefore, it is only a short-term option to consider. If you are tight for money, however, you could use this choice until you can afford a more permanent solution.

Patching The Drain

This method of drain repair works best if only a small amount of your drain pipe needs repair. Once the obstruction has been removed from the pipe, a pipe patch is put in place by your plumber.

The pipe patch is a piece of resin that is manoeuvred into place and then stuck over the crack using resin. This stops whatever is outside the pipe from coming back through the cracked area. This barrier can only be used on small cracks, so bigger issues demand a bigger solution.

Replace The Drain

In cases of extreme damage, the drain pipe will need to be dug up and replaced. This involves using a small excavator to dig above the pipe until it is exposed. The pipe is then removed and replaced.

While this is the messiest method of fixing your blocked drain issue because it involves digging a hole in your property, it is the most permanent way to repair the issue. Once the new pipe is in place, you do not need to worry about blocked drains for a very long time.

Talk to your plumber about which method of repair is most applicable to your situation so you can start working on a resolution to your issue.
